পলাশির যুদ্ধে হারিয়ে যাওয়া কয়েকটি তথ্যের অনুসন্ধানে দীর্ঘকাল ব্যাপৃত ছিলেন অধ্যাপক অমলেন্দু দে। এই যু্দ্ধ- সংক্রান্ত ভারতীয় ও বিদেশি লেখকদের মূল্যবান গ্রন্থসমূহ এবং সরকার কর্তৃক সংরক্ষিত নথিপত্রেও সেগুলির সন্ধান না পাওয়ায় তিনি আঠারো শতকের পারিবারিক কাগজপত্র অনুসন্ধান করতে থাকেন। অধ্যাপক দে বিশেষ নজর দেন সেইসব জমিদার পরিবারের নথিপত্রে, যাঁরা ১৭৫৭ কিংবা ১৭৫৮ সালে দত্তক পুত্র গ্রহণ করেছিলেন। ময়মনসিংহের জমিদার পরিবারের সঙ্গে বাংলার নবাবদের সুসম্পর্ক ছিল। অধ্যাপক দে ময়মনসিংহের ইতিহাস গ্রন্থে এমন কিছু তথ্য পান, যার সূত্র ধরে তিনি খোঁজ পেয়ে যান ইতিহাসে অনু্ল্লেখিত সিরাজউদদৌলার পুত্রের। সিরাজের সন্তান এই জমিদার পরিবারেই দত্তক পুত্র হিসেবে গৃহীত হয়েছিলেন। সিরাজের অন্যতম সেনানায়ক মোহনলাল ছিলেন সিরাজের স্ত্রী আলেয়ার দাদা। ধর্মান্তরিত হওয়ার আগে আলোয়ার নাম ছিল হীরা। সিরাজ ও হীরার এই পুত্রকে নিয়ে মোহনলাল যু্দ্ধক্ষেত্র থেকে ২৩ জুন (১৭৫৭ সাল) পালিয়ে চলে যান ময়মনসিংহ। তারপর সেখানকার জমিদার পরিবারে তাঁর আপন ভাগিনেয়কে দত্তক নেওয়ার ব্যবস্থা করেন। এই দত্তক পুত্রের নাম হল যুগলকিশোর রায়চৌধুরী। যেভাবে একের পর এক নবলব্ধ তথ্যের সাহায্যে সিরাজের পুত্র ও বংশধরদের অজানা ইতিহাস এ গ্রন্থে উন্মোচিত হয়েছে, তা এককথায় অনবদ্য। প্রসঙ্গত, মোহনলাল সম্পর্কে অধ্যাপক দে যে-সকল অজানা তথ্য সংগ্রহ করেছেন, তার ঐতিহাসিক মূল্য অনস্বীকার্য। সব মিলিয়ে, পলাশির যুদ্ধের ইতিহাস ও তাৎপর্য আলোচনায় এই গ্রন্থ এক মহামূল্যবান সংযোজন।
Madam Bhikaji Rustom Cama is one of the tallest representatives of the revolutionary stream of our freedom movement. She dedicated her life in organizing armed revolution against the oppressive British rule in India from abroad along with Shyamji Krishna Varma, Lala Hardayal, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Virendranath Chattopadhyay, M. N. Roy Dr. Bhupendranath Dutta and many others. She was the first who unfurled the Indian National Flag in foreign soil at the International Socialist Congress at Stuttgart, Germany in 1907. In her impassioned speech she urged upon the delegates to extend moral and material help to India’s freedom struggle. She devoted her entire life and energy in arousing world support for India’s cause and providing active help and encouragement to a fiery band of Indian revolutionaries. She is called, therefore, the mother of Indian Revolution. The writer marshalling many known and unknown documents has presented here in a lucid style Madam Cama’s life and activities. He had also presented here the works of other revolutionaries connected with her. Their lives and works should be better known to the people of India particularly to the younger generation.
